GossipTrap Talks Music And Dreams With Singer Miachalah

GossipTrap sat down with up-and-coming singer Miachalah pronounced (Mia-Kayla), to discuss where she is going, where she has been, and what she’s doing now. Miachalah is 24 years old, and from the Bay Area, California. She grew up constantly moving around. Miachalah was born in San Pablo, but lived in Richmond and Vallejo as well. She ended up moving to Antioch and going back and forth to Richmond all throughout middle school and high school because of her grandmother and church. She’s the true definition of a ‘rolling stone.’  We wanted to get to know Miachalah a little more so we asked her some questions:

1.)   How long have you been singing?

I have been singing since I can remember, since I was a baby. I never thought that I would end up pursuing music and singing as a career until 18 years old. When I turned 18 I started writing, singing my best friends writings, and making covers of other artist’s songs and I just kept going from there.

2.)   Are you self taught or did you take lessons?

Yes, I am self-taught. I would love to get singing lessons though! I definitely plan on getting lessons once I am more established.

3.)   Who are your musical influences and why?

My musical influences would have to be Lauryn Hill Amy Winehouse Beyoncé and Musiq Soulchild. I don’t know every song by them individually but they all have songs that I would listen to everyday as a child. Lauryn Hill, I just love her authenticity! She stayed so real, talked about positive messages and she repped God in her music and that’s what I love about her most. I want to be the type of artist where I make sure God is always noticeable in me and I always want to bring attention to his name. I also want to make sure I sing about things with meaning. Musiq Soulchild Amy Winehouse and Beyoncé showed me how to put emotion and soul in my voice when I sing. Certain songs from each of those artists always inspired me to want to sing after listening to them. I honestly have way more musical influences because of the music diversity I grew up around!

4.)   What are your musical goals?

I have so many music goals. As a young woman one of my huge goals is to stay true to my morals and beliefs throughout my career. The biggest thing I want to work toward is eventually going independent and selling out tours. The most important goal when I get a platform is to go and help people. I hope to help the youth in some way, especially the kids that don’t have as much. Whether its donating, speaking, bringing awareness anything I could do as an influencer to help. I just want to make sure I’m doing something to help the communities in the bay area and eventually worldwide because I’ve had that dream since I was young. I also have goals of helping my mom and family for everything they helped me with. My music goals are so long, I have more but those would be my top ones!

5.)    What kind of message do you want to send to your listeners?

The message I hope to send to my listeners is to never give up on yourself. I hope to share my experiences all throughout my life from God, heartbreak, hardships, losses, changes in life, confusion, pain, happiness, new beginnings, and love. I want all of it to uplift my listeners or be easily relatable so that they know I’ve gone through it and I’m still here and that they can do the same.

6.)   Have you ever tried rapping?

Yes, I’ve tried rapping. But I’m really not a rapper because I suck at freestyling and coming off the top of my head with a rap haha. But if I have time to think and write what I want to say I do feel like I’m pretty good. I feel like I could do good in a cypher too.

7.)    Do you write your own music?

So far I’ve written all my music. Breathe Again and Fall Through as well as all my features where I have a verse have been written by myself. At the same time moving forward in the future I hope to work with writers because I feel that my top talent is singing. I do have a few projects in the works with a couple of writers that I’m excited about!

8.)   How has music affected your life?

Music has impacted my life sooooo much! I seriously feel like I don’t know who I’d be without music. I grew up in a household where no music was off limits. I could listen to Gospel, Rock, Country, R&B, Hip-Hop, Jazz, Pop and so on. Music helped me through so much in life because it was always a way for me to express any emotion I was feeling. Music has been an outlet and a blessing for my life and Im so happy I get to share my passion for it with others.

9.)    What is your definition of success?

My definition of success is being at a place of peace with God and within myself. Making sure that I am being the best me for God and myself is important to me.

10.)  Biggest pet peeve?

My biggest pet peeve is when people give me their word on something and don’t come through or forget about what they said they were going to do. Even its something small lol. The crazy thing is that I sometimes do it haha. But I even irritate myself when I do it to others. My other HUGE pet peeve is when people don’t dry their hands after they wash them in the bathroom. When they let the water from their hands drop on the floor or they touch a doorknob with wet hands from the bathroom it really grosses me out. I don’t understand why the person just doesn’t use a paper towel if paper towels are accessible. I just don’t understand lol.

our last question to Miachalah was “What Is your advice to other up-and-coming singers or dreamers?” To which she answered; “If I could give any advice to singers and dreamers it would be to never give up on yourself no matter what happens on your journey or how many times you get told NO. I would also tell them to believe in themselves even when no one else does. Your dream can die so quickly if you let others be your judge. Just keep going do what you can pray and move forward.”
